Friendship is a concept that nearly everyone is familiar with and it is an excellent choice for an essay topic. Writing an essay on friendship doesn’t necessarily require much research, but you can certainly look up information on famous friendships, examine the incidence of love and friendship and even focus on literature and poems about friendship, if you are so inclined.
While a popular subject, friendship essays can go in many directions. You will need to choose your focus before you begin to write your essay on friendship. This is an ideal time to do a little pre-writing, or preparing yourself and doing the research before you actually write your essay.
Love and Friendship vs. Platonic Friendship
Many people agree that your significant other should also be your best friend, but how does that play out in real life? Movies and books are fraught with platonic friendships that turn into loving relationships or where one friend is in love and the other is interested in only being friends. Each of these options gives you something to write about in your essay.
Your essay could be the perfect chance to delve into just what makes a platonic friendship and why people fall in love with their friends. Examples from throughout history could easily be woven into this.
The Definition of a Friend
What exactly is a friend? This can be explored, as well, in your essay on friendship. There are many reasons you might become friends with someone, but when do you go from being acquaintances to actually becoming friends? What is the definition of a friend or a best friend? These are common questions that can be answered in your writing.
Another area you can focus on is the expression of friendship. This varies from person to person, but everyone has something they consider to be an indication of a good friend and entire studies have been done on it.
Start at the Beginning
Define your thesis statement or main point before you actually start writing, then base everything on that one line. Your thesis statement should be included in the first paragraph, at the very beginning of the essay on friendship. From this basic idea, you will build up an entire essay designed to support the main idea.
Write the Essay
The main part of the essay, the body, should be at least three paragraphs long and should build on the main concept for the essay. However, each paragraph will need its own sub-topic that can be explained in a few sentences. Think of every paragraph as its own mini essay, with its own thesis statement.
Every body paragraph should be anchored with a single main point. These points must always relate back to the original thesis statement, but can be explained throughout the paragraph. Use facts and quality references to make your points.
Sign Off with a Flourish
The last paragraph in your essay is the most important. This is the final impression you’ll leave, so round up all your points in this one section. It should be short and to the point, with a rewording of your original thesis statement. Finish off strong to make a good impression on the reader.
Three Types of Friends Essay examples
802 Words4 Pages
Through my experiences I have come to realize that there are basically three types of friends a person can have. There are friends that I call “sometimes” friends, these people appear to be your friend but only when you are face to face with them, and when you are not around them they act more like a foe. They are often referred to as two faced or a back stabber. These types of friends are not very reliable nor should they be trusted. Another type of friend a person can have, and the best kind, is a “true” friend. A true friend is someone you know you can always trust and rely on no matter what. The last type of friend is the “acquaintance”. These are the type of friends that you do not necessarily hate, but at the same time you do…show more content…
These people are not very reliable and should not be trusted with things of a personal matter or with things of great importance. You should confront this person and let them know how you are feeling about the way they are treating you. Let them know how things look from your point of view. If they are a true friend they will try to correct their ways and start acting like a real friend would act. If they do not change their ways and they continue to take advantage of you, it would probably be smart of you not to associate with them anymore. An “acquaintance” friend is someone who you will usually encounter every so often for business needs or for some other reason. You most likely are on good terms with these people, but they are not considered close friends whom you would talk to about personal problems. They could be someone at the grocery store where you shop at, the place where you work, the barber shop or salon where you get your hair cut, or maybe the convenience store where you get gas at. They usually seem as if they are good people and friendly. The acquaintance friend has the potential to become somewhat closer over time if there are enough meetings between the two of you. Most friends that people say are good friends were just an acquaintance at some point in time, but became closer as they got to know each other better. Last,
